“Lovers of the spoken word, rejoice!  The days of the cumbersome audiobook are gone with the advent of the Playaway, the first self-contained, digital audiobook.
 
As a library, we are constantly striving to stay relevant to our patrons by offering them the services they want. Audiobooks have always been a popular item here at the Clark County Public Library.  AV circulation alone accounted for 462,435 items checked out in 2005, and a large portion of this number would include audiobooks. The Playaway seemed to be a natural fit for the increased demand we have seen in our AV collection.  
 
Since purchasing several titles in the summer of 2006, we have expanded our Playaway collection to include 123 different titles, both fiction and non-fiction.  Our patrons have enthusiastically met these new additions to our AV collection! They tout the Playaways portability, variety of genre and title, and ease of use.  Our local paper even asked for an
op-ed piece this past July about this new addition to the library’s holdings.  This may explain why we have had a hard time keeping them on the shelves, but this is certainly not a bad thing.  With new titles becoming available everyday, and as their popularity increases, the Playaway will continue to be a valuable part of the Clark County Public Library’s collection.”
